Thank you to everyone who attended the Easter Services, what a journey it was! Each service had its own mood as we travelled through Holy Week.
Thank you so much to all the volunteers who helped make these and (and indeed other services) so special. We have an amazing band of cleaners, cake makers, coffee servers, creche leaders, intercessors, musicians, organisers, preachers, readers, service leaders, singers, sound desk/projector/livestream operators, stewards and youth/children's leaders. You are all very much appreciated.
The Boat Trip Is Now Open To All – In previous bulletins, you will have seen the notice about a men’s boat trip arranged for the 21st June. We still have some places available, and one or two ladies have said they would like to come, so everyone is now invited.
We’ll be setting sail on a spacious, well-equipped, wide-beam boat based in Loughborough at the Peter le Marchant Trust. The boat has plenty of seats, a galley for hot drinks and also a decent toilet. If boat trips many years ago are anything to go by, we’re in for a brilliant day out. We’ll leave Loughborough at 10:00am and return by about 3:00pm. Car shares will be arranged nearer the time. The cost is £20 per person. Bring a packed lunch - we’ll probably stop at a pub for a drink.
Any questions or to book your place, email Mike Houghton (mjhoughton@yahoo.co.uk) as soon as possible. A £5 deposit is required (cash preferred next time you see Mike, but bank transfer is possible – ask for details).
APCM minutes: The minutes of the APCM are now on the notice board.
Church heating - an update: The gas fired hot air heating system at St Peter’s is 20 years old and desperately needs replacing. We had been hoping to replace it with an all electric system based on radiant heaters housed on chandeliers. Unfortunately the local electricity provider National Grid are unable to supply the additional power required. We therefore enlisted the help of the Southwell Diocesan heating adviser who has recommended that a study is carried out by a building services consultancy looking at the financial and environmental aspects of possible options. This contract has now been placed with GAC a local company based at Bingham who have a lot of experience advising on heating projects and who understand our requirements well. The cost of the study should be covered by a grant from the Church of England’s Decarbonisation Fund. We are hopeful that carrying out this options study will make it easier to obtain approval from the Diocese which is required for any gas heating replacement scheme.
Children's Activities: There are organised children’s activities provided by St Peter’s and Ruddington Baptist Churches most Sundays (term time only) from 11:00 - 11:45am in St Peter’s Rooms where the Baptist Church meet. Generally the age group catered for is KS1, KS2 and KS3. Younger children would need a parent with them. We also have a creche for our youngest children.
Your News Snippets Still Wanted: For example, any challenges that have been overcome or what Christian resources you have found helpful. Or indeed, any other faith or church-related news. So, if you have something you would like to share, it doesn’t have to be “special”, send your contribution to Nikki Roe at ruddoffice@gmail.com – suggested length about 250 words maximum.
